How
to make Visitors come to your site again and again and …
Yes you did it. You contracted the best search engine optimizers, you tried out the best link exchange, the best advertisement media and your site statistic do so a good visitor rate, but, BUT you rarely see visitors from “Direct Click” (or in some cases “unknown”). What am I trying to tell you is very simple, which you might be either ignoring or thinking that nothing can be done about it, well the question is why don’t the visitors bookmark your site and come to it regularly? The first thing you should ask is why should the visitor come to your site again? So lets see some checkpoints to figure out what a holy visitor wants. 1. What’s New? A visitor asks to site what’s in the heaven is there in the site new for me. Lets see this point more clearly. S/he visited your site for the first time, and like the information so s/he followed all the link and seen everything. So from his/her point of view s/he needs a reason to come back again. And if s/he did opened up the site, s/he don’t want to go through the whole site once more to hunt for what’s new? So the best thing you as a web-master can do is add a what’s new section. 2. Who is at Top? Oh its not Microsoft. I mean if your site features say Computing Articles, or free downloads or anything then check out which items are read or downloaded often, and rank them accordingly with changing them periodically. And you can bet the authors or the programmers will open this page so regularly to see their item featured. And there is no reason to keep your finger cross because so will the visitors to get the best. 3. Newsletter / Mailing List: Newsletter or mailing list will drive traffic to your site at amazing rate, but again put yourself in your visitors shoes and ask yourself why should in the first place one sign in to your mailing list? Good question, lets see what you have to offer. First, what is the newsletter all about? If it is a mailing list, it would certainly be about the new listing added to your site. Tell them how and what they are going to miss by not signing your mailing list. On the other hand if you are offering newsletter or articles then tell them about the articles and news sent by the emails, how other subscribers benefits by this. Keep emphasizing and keep on emphasizing. A few more words about mailing list/newsletter:
4. Let me speak my mind: An important feature that made a difference between animals and human is the ability to communicate. So why don’t add a way to make the visitors interact with either you or in between the visitors. Your communication can be as simple as a discussion forum or a good java chat. If nothing at least add a feedback form. 5. Do you know how to bookmark? I know you do, but can you bet all of your visitors do? When it is very easy to add a Bookmark Me link to your site why not add it. Here the javascript you can use: <script language = “javascript”> <!—for the browser who are unfamiliar of javascript function bookmarkme() { if ((navigator.appName == "Microsoft Internet Explorer") && parseInt(navigator.appVersion) >= 4)) { var sitetitle = “my site title” var siteurl = “http://www.nowhere.com” window.external.AddFavorite(siteurl,sitetitle); } else { window.alert(‘Press Ctrl+D to bookmark this site’); } } // call the bookmark function when user click either on a bookmark link or button. --> </script> What about setting home-page? Here is the code if you wish to add, you can aspect use of this link only if your site is updated frequently or you offer something of interest of the user to watch regularly, like emails, message board replies etc. <A HREF="" onClick="this.style.behavior='url(#default#homepage)'; this.setHomePage('http://homepage.com ');"> <font color="#0000FF"> <u>Set Home Page</u> </font> </a> 6. What is My Progress? An individual is thousand times more interested in himself than he is on you or your site! Quite true, if you have some sort of visitors interaction you need to give the reaction. Let me explain it, suppose your visitor posted an article or a message your site must be able to state how many or who read the very article. You need to take every visitor as human and not mere numbers. It is what you give to other which come back to you. An added feature would be enabling other visitors to comment or vote on the item. 7. Am I the Winner? The feeling of being importance or I should state this phrase as: the craving for being important is present in every individual. Introduce a contest in your site, and select a winner periodically and see your click rate and submission rate rising like moon-tides. The visitor must have a good experience visiting your site, please your visitor with everything you have and enjoy your site success.
